South Africa's Favorite Xbox LIVE Arcade games!

X3G's "Top Xbox Games" list has been updated to now display a bit more information for the discerning South African Xbox gamers out there. Firstly, games have been sorted into two categories, "retail games" and "XBL Arcade games". We've also managed to generate two types of statistics for each type of game. These are "popular games over the last week" and "popular games overall", which should give you a good idea what South African Xbox gamers are busy playing and what they're buying in general.

Statistics are generated by looking at what games X3G members are playing, dumping that data into our database, mixing it up, sorting it out, baking it for 20 minutes and finally serving it to the public.

Hopefully this new information will help you make up your mind the next time you can't make up your mind about what game to buy next.

Who is "Stallion83"?

Stallion83 signed-up on X3G.co.za, instantly taking the 1st place on the gamerscore leaderboard. Who is he and why had so few South African Xbox LIVE gamers heard about him?

Well, he's this (American) guy who is really committed to getting 1 million gamerscore (see http://1milliongamerscore.com/). He recently signed-up on X3G, but had to be removed since he's a non-South African. At the time of writing this, Stallion83's gamerscore was sitting at a staggering 372885 points, all of which have been earned legitimately, without cheating or using any other shady techniques.

The current top South African gamer registered on X3G is SpaWnNiNja ZA who has a gamerscore of 109805.

The Beatles: Rockband - Some thoughts

As a casual Beatles listener (I have a few favorite songs) I was very pleased with what The Beatles: Rockband had to offer when I popped the disk into my Xbox 360. There's a decent selection of well known Beatles tunes that most gamers should be familiar with, as well as a some other good songs that I'd never heard before.

The main part of the game takes the form of a set of chapters, each containing a selection of songs from a particular time period in the history of the Beatles. The "music videos" also reflect this as they get more and more trippy and psychedelic. Some gems to look out for include "Yellow Submarine", "I am the Walrus" and "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds". Once in Story Mode everything is set out in an easy to use menu that expands as each chapter is unlocked.

Do you need to be a die-hard Beatles fanatic to enjoy The Beatles: Rockband? Definitely not. All you need is to pick up your controller, be it a guitar, microphone or drums and start playing - it's as easy as that.

Who needs Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition Anyway?

I have decided that, with regards to the "Prestige Edition" of Call Of Duty:Modern Warfare 2, I will not be requiring the night vision goggles because I will be to pre-occupied with actually playing the game. The goggles are a novelty idea, but they're just not for me. Something I would have enjoyed is the "Hardened Edition" with the metal case, artwork, etc, but unfortunately for us poor South African Modern Warfare 2 fans there will be no such offering available. That sux.

Our Mission : Growing the South African Xbox LIVE community

The mission of the Xbox360Gamers.co.za website is simply to bring South African Xbox 360 gamers together. I've heard so many locals on Xbox Live telling stories of how they played with international players for months before they found other South Africans to add to their LIVE friends lists. As many know, the international Xbox LIVE experience isn't always a pleasant one for most of us (due to our location on the planet), which is why the growing of the local Xbox LIVE community is so important!

The purpose of me writing this isn't necessarily to get Microsoft to deploy the LIVE service in South Africa, that would be a nice after effect of the efforts of all of the local gamers and Xbox related websites who have contributed to the growth of the local Xbox community. This is about creating awareness. This is about you, the South African Xbox 360 owner, and how you should be telling your friends about how awesome the Xbox 360 experience is. Let people know that there are gamers from all over South Africa on Xbox LIVE and they're playing the same games that everyone else is playing. Get them to sign-up at all of the local gaming sites and get them to participate in the community.

There are also local resources available that should provide solutions to any of your Xbox 360 and LIVE questions...

- Xbox360Gamers.co.za - For finding South Africans on Xbox LIVE, sorted into groups by the games that they are playing.
- Gamerlobby.net - Provides a facility to create scheduled games that you can invite friends to, or let any other local gamers join. Also provides info about tournaments and competitions.
- Xbox-360.co.za - A local Xbox 360 forum with news, reviews, tutorials, game info and more.
- MSPoints.co.za - Purchase Xbox LIVE memberships and points locally.
- EVOGAMES.co.za - Buy Xbox 360 games, memberships, points.
- Kalahari.net Xbox 360 Store - Xbpx 360 games and hardware.
- ZAPS online - Local game store.
- South African Gamertags on the Xbox.com forum - Add yours!
